07/02/2018

After a record 86 World Cup victories, two Olympic Games gold medals and three World Championship wins, Ingemar Stenmark is now bringing his unrivalled expertise of alpine skiing to Discovery’s coverage of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.

Stenmark will appear on Kanal 5 and Eurosport Sweden’s exclusive live coverage of PyeongChang 2018. He will make his first appearance tomorrow, on the day of the Opening Ceremony, when Discovery unveils its Olympic studios on-air and online for the first time during Kanal 5’s opening show, hosted by popular presenter Jonas Karlsson.

The alpine legend joins a line-up across Europe* that includes 59 Olympians with 155 Olympic Games and 78 Olympic Games medals among them, all of whom will help bring the Olympic Winter Games to more people, across more screens than ever before.

Ingemar Stenmark said: “I’m really looking forward to the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and to see all the Swedish athletes go for gold, especially our alpine heroes who I follow very closely. To be a part of the Olympics is really an honor for all athletes and my two Olympic gold medals from Lake Placid 1980 are very strong memories for me. Now I’m excited to be a part of the Kanal 5 and Eurosport presentation of PyeongChang 2018.”

Emir Osmanbegovic, Sports Director, Discovery Networks Sweden and Eurosport, said: "It’s so exciting that Ingemar will be part of our star-studded Olympic Games team. His incredible career remains the envy of the world’s best alpine ski racers, who continue to chase his records.

“The whole Discovery and Eurosport team is ready and poised to deliver the best Olympic Games viewing experience for everyone across Sweden. Having Ingemar with us is the cherry on the top of the cake.”

Stenmark will share his expertise during Alpine competitions, with a special focus on the Swedish hopefuls striving to win gold. He will also participate in a range of discussion and analysis live from Stockholm and connected with the Discovery’s studio in PyeongChang.

Sweden’s expert line up for PyeongChang 2018 is now complete, featuring every Swedish flagbearer from the past four Olympic Winter Games. Stenmark features alongside Alpine experts Anja Pärson, Maria Pieitilä Holmner, Therese Borssén and Hans Olsson, as well as star names across all winter sports including Peter Forsberg, Magdalena Forsberg and Per Elofsson.
